Paris, France

Paris is the capital of France. There are over nine million people living in the suburbs and over a million in the central region. France is known as the City of Lights and is considered the most beautiful and romantic city of all. It brims with history and remains vastly rich in cultural diversity, art, fashion, cuisine and design. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the entire world.

In certain the parts of the France that are frequented by many tourism like the Eiffel Tower, the Champs-Elysees and Le Louvre, the shop business owners, information booth workers and other employees, will give answers in English because they have learned how to deal with the many visitors that grace their city. Most Parisians learn English in school as well even though French is their native language.

The best way to get the most out of your sight seeing trip is to purchase a Paris Museum Pass, which is a pre-paid card that allows entry to more than seventy museums and Parisian monuments. For a two-day entry card, the cost is thirty Euro dollars and a four-day pass is forty-five Euro dollars. You can even purchase a six-day entry card for only sixty Euro dollars. With this entry card, you don't have to join the many long lines, but can enjoy your stay while saving. You will have to pay for special exhibits separately, though.

Paris is the greatest fashion city in the Western world. It compares with cities like London, New York and Milan. It is one of the best places to clothes shop for high end and exotic fashion and jewelry. The shops are sophisticated and inviting.

Paris is a European culinary gift to its residents and visitors. The restaurant and exotic cuisine began over two hundred years ago and still continues its thriving. Paris is the best place to dine because of its cultural diverse cuisine unlike the smaller restaurants of French food on the outskirts of the city.

Eating out in Parisian restaurants can be very expensive especially if you have to eat out every night while you are there. The restaurants that have a lot of English-speaking staff are usually the most expensive since they cater specifically to the tourist crowd. For those travelers that are on a budget, there are open-air farmers markets around the city to purchase produce. The largest one is near Bastille. If the hotel or resort has cooking facilities, this would be recommended.

Parisians drink wine and cheese. This is a very important part of their culture. Wine that is less than three Euros is not recommended. There are few food specialties in Paris that you must try before you leave the city. For those who love seafood, the city is the best place to try moules frites, which is steamed mussels and French fries. It is better in the Fall and in the winter. Oysters, sea snails and other seafood delicacies are also available. Meat specialties like venison (deer meat), boar, lamb, beef and pork are also enjoyable. Parisians French salad is very delicate, tasty and delicious.

Hotels in Paris usually price their rooms according to the high and low seasons. Every hotel is different in price, so you have to shop around. The high season is in the late spring and summer and a few weeks during the Christmas.
